Assistant Rabbi

As a result of our substantial growth and commitment to Jewish values, The Ark is proud and excited to add a part-time (20 hours weekly) ordained Assistant Rabbi position to our well known and highly respected clergy. Under the mentorship and direction of our Senior Rabbi, this candidate will have an in-depth understanding and practice of Halacha, and share in rabbinic activities of all kinds. Additionally, the ideal candidate will develop trusting relationships with a broad spectrum of humanity offering support, sensitivity and counseling as needed. OVERALL:

  • Assisting Senior Rabbi in serving the religious, spiritual, educational and emotional needs of any client   
  • Provide support and contribute development of programs with suggestions on how to make community more aware of clergy services 
  • Work with Senior Rabbi as an Instrumental part of creating a sense of community within the Ark and broader community 
  • Attend meetings, and  participate in events of various community and Jewish organizations 
  • Author articles about the Ark and the community as requested 
  • Offer support and counseling to clients as needed or requested 
  • Lead weekly Torah study groups as needed and provide leadership in bringing an array of relevant and engaging programs to clients. 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Experience in working with adults having a range of situations and conditions including major psychiatric disorders 
  • Able to provide counseling for daily life issues, end of life situations, and grief support 
  •  Flexibility necessary to perform funerals and other emergencies as needed 
  • Assist with all holiday programing, lead Torah discussions for staff volunteers and clients 
  • Conduct classes with diverse participants, engaging students with little knowledge of Judaism and observance in combination with others having strong Jewish education and understanding
