Community Outreach Coordinator 
(Part-Time)

The Ark is seeking a part-time, non-exempt, Community Outreach Coordinator (Part-Time) to support the Volunteer and Outreach Department in creating and facilitating hands-on, dynamic presentations, educational experiences, and volunteer projects for community groups. This is a great opportunity for someone who has a background in education, camp, community social work, or volunteer coordination. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail and is highly responsive to written and verbal communication. The Ark is a dynamic, fast-paced environment; the ideal candidate embraces challenge and is flexible when plans and expectations change. This role requires availability on Sundays two times per month and access to private transportation.  

Team/Department You Will Join:  Volunteer and Community Engagement 

Responsibilities / Duties 

  • Communication, planning, and preparation for Jewish community group education and volunteer programs. 
  • Facilitate community group volunteer and education programs at The Ark and occasionally at off-site partner locations. 
  • Redesign the promotion and organization of Mitzvah projects with synagogues and day schools. 
  • Create new pathways to relationship building with community organizations, government offices, and businesses. 
  • Order, coordinate, and organize materials and supplies for all programs. 
  • Support the Volunteer Coordinator with volunteer management tasks as needed. 
  • Assist with planning for and processing of in-kind donations. 
  • Make follow-up phone calls on behalf of the department to community partner organizations and business. 
  • Work with events team to support large-scale events at The Ark. 
  • Provide tours of The Ark to visitors and groups. 
  • Represent The Ark at community meetings and events. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications 

Education / Certifications: 

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree, preferred, or comparable work experience. 

Experience: 

  • 2 years minimum experience in program planning. 
  • 1-year minimum experience providing community education programs to a variety of age groups, children through adults. 
  • Awareness of and appreciation for the broad Jewish landscape across the Greater Chicagoland Area. 

Skills/Requirements: 

  • Engaging, energetic personality with experience in public speaking and community education. A clear communicator, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Experience working with groups of adults, teens, and children. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Willingness to learn relevant tech programs, such as: Canva, digital Volunteer Management System, and Salesforce. 
  • Availability to work occasional Sundays (min. 2x/month). 
  • Ability to lift and move packages of up to 25 lbs. 

Access to private transportation for off-site programs and events. 

Job Location: 

  • Primary office location in West Rogers Park; occasional off-site locations throughout the suburbs and city. 

Salary + Benefits 

  • $25 per hour, overtime eligible. 
  • Hours: 20 hours/week, including an average of 4 hours on 2 Sundays each month. 
  • Paid time off and observance of Jewish and Federal Holidays 
  • 403(b) Retirement Plan with up to 4% match after 1 year of continuous employment.
