The Michael E. Schneider Spiritual Enrichment Program

The Ark is proud to offer our clients and Jewish community members opportunities to deepen their connection to Judaism. Join us for activities ranging from Torah study classes to holiday celebrations and lifecycle ceremonies.

About Spiritual Enrichment

For 50 years, The Ark has served as a beloved and trusted spiritual resource in the Chicago Jewish community. Under the leadership of Rabbi Shaya Hauptman, Director of Spiritual Enrichment, community members study Torah, benefit from counseling, and experience dignified Jewish life cycle events.

Named for a young community member lost too soon and funded by the generosity of his family, the Michael E. Schneider Spiritual Enrichment Program welcomes all in the Jewish community – both clients of The Ark and others in the community, each uplifted by participation.

Meaningful Judaic Programming

Each week, Torah classes connect the weekly Parsha to participants’ daily lives, enriching them with a better understanding of Torah and Jewish thought for renewed connection to Jewish life. In individual or group Spiritual Counseling sessions, dialogue takes lessons even further, providing a deeper understanding, comfort and community.

Spiritual Enrichment oversees Jewish holiday celebrations with festive meals, music, and meaning. The Ark further supports Brit Milah celebrations, Bar/Bat Mitzvah services, wedding ceremonies, and funerals, and also facilitates shiva. The Ark is often called upon by local authorities to ensure that those in the Jewish community who have passed away and do not have family or resources to plan a funeral have a Jewish service and burial with the dignity they deserve.
