A Statement from The ARK
We at The ARK are filled with sadness over the senseless murder of George Floyd by some Minneapolis police. Our deepest condolences go out to Mr. Floyd’s family and friends. It is our fervent hope that his memory becomes a blessing, not only for his family, but for us all.
We learn in Jewish texts that Kol Yisrael Arevim Zeh ba-Zeh, all of Israel are responsible for one another. We remind ourselves that we are all Israel, and acknowledge the history of injustice and persecution that extends to the African American community. The loss of Mr. Floyd’s life is deeply painful as we experience his death as a failure of our responsibility towards those most vulnerable.
We at The ARK stand with others against suspicion, hatred, injustice, prejudice, and social inequity. At the core of The ARK is the Jewish value of chesed, the act of spreading love and kindness within and beyond our community. We have an existential responsibility to care for one another, regardless of our skin color and other cosmetic traits that unnecessarily divide us as human beings.
Because black lives absolutely matter.
